Graham Sharpe, Senior Structural Design Engineer, is retiring from the Company at the end of March after nearly 30 years of valuable service.

Although Graham, 71, is officially retiring from full time employment on 31st March 2019, he is hoping to continue making his skills and knowledge available to the company on a part time basis as and when his services are required.

Graham, served his apprenticeship as a Structural Design Draughtsman at Gallen Construction, and then worked for a variety of Structural Companies in Scunthorpe, before gaining experience as a weight control engineer working for companies like McDermott’s, Brown & Root, Britoil and Monsanto. In August 1987 he joined On Line Design & Engineering as a Structural Design Draughtsman, at a time when the company had a huge workload producing structural detail drawings for Distribution centres and shopping complexes etc.

Unfortunately, during a turndown in workload, the company made Graham redundant in January 1991 and he spent several months working on the Channel Tunnel trains with British Rail Engineering at Derby. Later that year he returned to On Line and has been a mainstay of the Structural Department, working on projects for all of their major clients ever since. More recently he has been heavily involved in the P66 project for the replacement of two of the Refinery Coke Drums.

Graham, who lives in Scunthorpe with his wife Jean is looking forward to the opportunity to play more golf at Ashby Decoy Golf Club, just a 15-minute walk from where they live, and where he was Club Captain for 2018. He said, “Jean does not play golf, but enjoys the social functions that the club put on at regular intervals. In general, I enjoy the work that I do and have enjoyed my time at On Line, even though there has been several ups and downs as times have changed. I am looking forward to not having to get up early every morning and will enjoy my time playing golf and going out for days-out with Jean…. I may even dust down my cameras and reinvent my interest in photography.”

Jeff Laird, Chairman said, “Graham has been with the business for the last 32 years, and has been a valuable employee who will be missed by the Company and all of his colleagues. We would like to wish Graham and his wife Jean a long and happy retirement.”

Only in New York!

For the second time in less than 3 months, an On Line Group employee has got engaged during a trip to the 'The Big Apple'. This time it was the turn of On Line Design’s trainee Project Manager, Keiran Dinnes and Project Administrator Ellisha Thompson.

22 year old Keiran first met Ellisha, 21, at an OLDE apprentice night out at the KC Stadium in Hull in December 2015 when they watched the Tigers beat Reading 2-1. The win must have been a good omen because shortly afterwards they met again in a Cleethorpes pub and have been together since.

The couple spent 5 days in New York where Keiran decided to propose to Ellisha, 54 stories up on the famous rooftop 'Bar 54' with its superb views of the Manhattan skyline. Unfortunately, nerves got the better of Keiran and instead of popping the big question "Will you marry me?" he simply said, "I’ve bought you a ring!" Happily, Ellisha was thrilled and said "YES."

Whilst in New York the couple’s highlights were visiting the top of the Rockefeller Centre at night and going to watch the legendary story of King Kong on Broadway.

Keiran and Ellisha who both live in Grimsby are currently working hard to finish their respective degrees, whilst at the same time saving for their first house as a couple. They said, "We’re very happy and excited for our future together."

On Line send their congratulations and best wishes to both Keiran and Ellisha.
