Full Distinction for On Lines Dan Pashby!

  • Mel Dent

After achieving an overall distinction in his Mechanical Engineering HNC, which he completed last June at the University Centre Grimsby (UCG), Piping Draughtsman Dan Pashby, was nominated by his course tutor for the Institutes Advanced Technology Research Award for his work as Project Manager leading a team of 4 people on the Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation unit.

Dan was delighted to receive both awards during the UCG graduation ceremony on the 28th October 2016 at Grimsby town hall. Following the graduation ceremony, Dan attended an informal champagne reception at the Grimsby Minster. Dan said, “The cash prize has gone towards paying for a ski trip with my friends. We are jetting off to Bansko, Bulgaria for a week in the snow.”

25 years old Dan is currently busy juggling work and studying for his HND in Mechanical Engineering whilst coping with the added pleasures of a demanding daughter, 16 month old Layla Mae, who likes to play 24/7. Dan is looking forward to marrying his fiancée Suze in 2018 and said “whilst the laptop battery drains and the assignment deadline approaches I remember how important it is to take some time out and focus on the things that mean the most. Work hard but play even harder to keep the balance!”

On Line Launch Survey Department

In common with many other businesses On Line Design & Engineering Limited have found the past few years very difficult due to the price of Oil and the price of Steel. Two factors that have traditionally affected the business environment in the Humberside Region. In addition to these two factors the uncertainty surrounding the results of the Brexit referendum, have driven the Company to seek opportunities and clients outside of their normal sphere of operations, whilst still serving our historical and important core clients.

Although it is a service that the Company has been able to offer for many years, the Company has now created and launched a standalone survey department and appointed a new Head of Department to market and manage the section. Josh Smith, a graduate of Leeds Metropolitan University has been with the company for 6 years, he is currently hoping to get his Chartered Surveyor status and has been involved with specifying, selecting and purchasing the companies surveying equipment including a new 3D laser scanning station.

Josh has been intimately involved in many of the Companies projects both Onshore and Offshore and his specific knowledge of the equipment enables him to provide survey solutions to the highest possible standards and accuracy. Josh said “In addition to traditional surveying services we are able to offer dimensional control and fabrication verification and a full 3D colour laser scanning service including large multi-discipline cloud surveys.”

There are numerous benefits to be had from dimensional control surveys which include the reduction of on-site hot works and the minimisation of shutdown and installation times. Josh went on to explain that “the benefits of 3D laser scanning include amongst other things a reduction in Design costs and the provision of uniform design accuracy across all disciplines, in addition to enabling complete clash detection on all designs.”
